If the physician is performing a colonoscopy with an RN and a tech in the operating suite and he is doing both the procedure and the anesthesia. How would I code the case?
 
If the physician is performing a colonoscopy with an RN and a tech in the operating suite and he is doing both the procedure and the anesthesia. How would I code the case?

Colonscopy codes include moderate sedation-this is why when billing anesthesia services separately some insurances deny our claims, because what they paid the physician included the sedation/anesthesia. So, if your physician is performing the colonoscopy with no seperate anesthesia staff on hand (just the RN/tech), then I would just bill the colonscopy code 45378-45392. Hope this helps!
