I AM NEEDING SOME HELP ON HOW TO PROPERLY CODE A E/M VISIT FOR A COLON SCREENING WITH USE OF ANTICOAGULANTS.

OUR DOCTORS ACTUALLY SEE THESE PATIENTS AND EVAL THEM THE DX CODE WE ARE USING IS Z79.01 AND Z12.11. THAT IS NOT PAYING FOR MEDICARE AND COMMERICAL.

I AM KNEW TO THIS CODING THING AND CURRENTLY WORKING ON GETTING MY CPC I WAS WONDERING IF I SHOULD USE CAT II CODE 1008F, ALONG WITH MY E/M CODE.

ANY HELP AND INPUT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Are these E/Ms being done on the same day as the colonoscopy? If so, then the CMS global surgery rules bundle the E/M with the minor procedure performed on the same day. Please see the bottom of page 4 on the following link:
https://www.cms.gov/Outreach-and-Ed...oducts/downloads/GloballSurgery-ICN907166.pdf. Otherwise, Z12.11 is typically only used in conjunction with the screening colonoscopy CPT. Category II code 1008F is a quality measure code used for MIPS reporting and is not reimbursed like an E/M code is.
