CAPToday has indicated ovaries and tubes can be coded 88307 when BRCA protocol is applied but what about the uterus? A case where a patient is BRCA positive so has a hysterectomy for prophylaxis and no tumor is found. BRCA protocol is applied whereas the specimen is treated as if neoplastic-both ovaries and tubes individually analyzed as well as the uterus. I do not have any other information than that as I have not seen the report yet. Would 88309 be acceptable for the uterus? I do not know if they patient has ever had any cancer but prophylaxis is a key word. I am just curious if anyone has had experience with coding hysterectomies for BRCA+ patients, how they are handled, if there is any documentation out there somewhere. I appreciate any feedback.
