Procedure: Closure of ileostomy fistula
Indication for procedure:
Pt diagnosed with acute ischemic colitis requiring exploratory laparotomy, requiring a small-bowel resection with ileostomy. However she did develop a fistula at the ileostomy site which was leaking at the base , hence provider recommends repair of the same?
After iv sedation was administered, the left lower quadrant ileostomy site was prepped and draped in the usual sterile fashion. The fistula was located at the 9o"clock position. I want ahead and used a #3-0 Vicryl stitch in the form of figure-of-eight to close this fistula in 2 separate bites, and once this was closed, and the ileostomy stoma bag was applied, the procedure was completed.
