Wiki Chemo Infusion thru an Abdominal Intraperitoneal Port

I have been trying to find a chemo code thru an abdominal intraperitoneal port. There is the CPT code 96445 but a peritoneocentesis is required and they are not doing this. It seems that more and more ovarian cancer patients are receiving these ports. Do I code the regular infusion codes 96413 and 96415? Thanks for your help.

If it is not an intravenous procedure/port access device, I wouldn't use the 96413 etc. What about 96549? Hope this helps.

On a seperate note... Do you code J1642 seperately with your chemo therapy treatments that are flushed with saline and heparin? Or is the heparin figured in with the procedure? I've heard both ways. Thanks.

Hi with code 96445 you need to add modifier 52 - Believe medicare automatically adds it on billing as the periocentesis is not always done at the same time - no other procedure available to this moment.

Thanks for your replies. Heparin is usually included in the infusion procedure.
