Patient has a carotid bruit. When you use the crosswalk for the I9 code of 785.9 it gives you DX code of R09.89. However when billing that to certain carriers they say it doesn't met LCD standards. After research and using my reference guides they lead me to code R01.1. This states a cardiac bruit or murmur. Hoping someone can shed some light on this situation. Much appreciated.
 
R01.1 would be correct. I myself was using R09.89 for awhile but realized R01.1 was the right one. R01.1 is more specific to cardiac.
