Hello I have two questions regarding CPAP initiation and management. I work for a Neurologist who specializes in Sleep Studies. If a patient comes in to have the compliance read on their CPAP machine and that is the sole purpose of the visit, should there be an additional E/M code along with CPT code 94660 or is the visit included in that code alone?

My second question is what if the visit is done via Telehealth?

Hi there,
Question 1: No. You would only report a separate E/M service if it was a distinct and separate visit.
Question 2: No. The same essential coding rules apply to telehealth services. Make sure that the payer allows 94660 by telehealth.

JKyles is correct. If the provider is only providing services for the reading of the CPAP, then there is no E/M justified. If the provider were to address other conditions in addition to reading the CPAP, then an E/M may be justified depending on the documentation.
