How would you code for the microscopic exam of breat discharge/drainage? CLIA waived test? Thanks.

If the discharge was put into a cell block it is 88305 for the gross and microscopic exam and subsequent diagnosis. This is a CPT-designated specimen, Cell block, any source.

If it's examined as a cytology specimen it is a different code but I don't have my CPT book handy. I'll look it up later and get back to you.

Sorry to take so long.

need more information. fluids are generally submitted for cytologic evaluation. Thin preps are 88112, cytospins 88108, smears 88104,filterprep 88106, smears & filter 88107. the report should state cytology.
