We are an ASC with a pain management physician who is interested in doing lumbar facet injections with aspirated bone marrow. The rep from the company that sells the aspiration kit is insistent that we can bill 20902 for obtaining the aspirated bone marrow. When I looked into this I see that code 20939 is for bone marrow aspiration for bone grafting, spine surgery only, through separate skin or fascial incision. Can anyone tell me why the Bone Graft code 20902 is more appropriate to bill for aspirating bone marrow for the above procedure then 20939 as the rep insists that it is? Thank you!
