I am wracking my brain. I cannot find a CPT code for two biopsies. My surgeon states that he did an endocardial wedge biopsy and an epicardial core needle biopsy.

He did these procedures while performing a Mitral Valve Replacement and CABG. I cannot seem to locate in the CPT Guidelines for this or these two biopsies. The only one I can find is the 93505 however, this is through a catheter and obviously that is not what I need.

Does anyone know what this code may be?

How did he perform the biopsies? For example, the wedge biopsy; was this done thoracoscopically or by Thoracotomy?

Take a look at CPT codes 32096/32097 and see if that matches what your doc did.

If not, then you could consider using an unlisted code or even attaching modifier 22 if you determine these biopsies are not an integral part of the primary procedure and the physician documentation supports m.n.
