Good Evening,

Physician performed a scarf bunionectomy with metatarsal osteotomy and gave a 20mg injection of dexamethasone at the end. This is the first time that I have seen documentation of the medication. Can this be billed as part of the surgery, or is this included in the hospitals charges?

Thanks in advance for the assistance,
Kerstin

any thoughts?

I found this old post and I am having exactly the same question today.
28293 with 20550 injected into the 1st interspace for bursitis.

The pertinent part of the note says :Decadron was infiltrated by lateral approach to the foot, away from the implant region, ...
Anyone think this will fly?

the injection is considered incident to the major surgical procedure. So the injection is not billed separately, it is part of the procedure.
