My claim for 31298 has been denied by Medicare for improper modifier. Does it need a modifier 50 to imply bilateral? Can anyone share with me how they are billing this? Has anyone been paid for this code yet? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

CPT code 31298 is a bilateral eligible code.

How are you reporting this code on the claim form (one or 2 lines) and who is your MAC (Medicare Contractor)? It will help me research this further for you.

Yes, I have billed the 31298 to Medicare and received payment according to the fee schedule. The contractor for our area is Novitas.
