Wiki Arherosclerosis of the extremities and PVD unspecified

With ICD9, our office always coded 440.20 and 443.9, but now with ICD10, it states not to code I79.3. PVD, Unspecified with I70.2 - I70.7 Atherosclerosis of the extremities. Does anyone know why? Also, if I could only code one of them, which should I code, I79.3 or I70.203?

It think you have a typo do you mean ICD-10 Code I73.9?
IMHO...


If you are unsure of the actual Peripheral Artery Disease I would think you would use I73.9 since the specific type of disease is unknown....

If it is documented as specifically "atherosclerosis" disease I would use the appropriate I70.2-I70.7 ICD-10 Codes
 
If you are billing a diagnostic test such as 93922-93926 (Lower Extremity Study). PVD (icd9 443.9)which is now icd-10 i73.9 no longer supports medical necessity.
