Hello folks,

Does anyone know the protocol for coding the resection of the femoral head with insertion of antibiotic spacer.
My peer asked me for advice...and I am asking you all...the provider documents he anticipates a prolonged course with eventual hope for resection and reimplantation of final components.

We are thinking either the arthroplasty with -52 then arthroplasty again with -58 when return -or- femoral head resection and wait to see if return for completion?

This is a little tough as there isn't an operative report and just an explanation of the coding scenario but I will give it a try :)

I am thinking CPT 27122 for the femoral head resection and 11981-59 for the antibiotic spacer (s). I would wait to see if the second surgery is scheduled right away or even within the 90 global period of CPT 27122 before coding.
