Doctor wants to charge for I&D of medial side of ankle and ORIF of lateral side of ankle. would the I&D be included in the ORIF? If not, what code would you use for the I&D. I have CPT 27848 for the ORIF. Thanks in advance for your help!



POSTOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS:
Grade 1 open ankle fracture dislocation, left ankle.

OPERATION PERFORMED:
1. Irrigation and debridement of the medial-sided open soft
tissue wound.
2. Open reduction and internal fixation of fracture dislocation
of ankle with plating of lateral fibular fracture.
 
Look at 1101x, depending on the depth of the debridement. I did not see that the 1101x codes were bundled with 27848 in the NCCI edits.
