Are there services that an RN can perform and bill for in a primary care office that other ancillary staff can not?

Advantage of an RN in family practice

Hi,

I think this will largely depend on the scope of practice for registered nurses versus other clinical staff in your state but often RN's can provide more services including a large portion of the Medicare Annual Wellness Visit. RNs also are usually better qualified to provide the clinical staff activities of chronic care management and transitional care management due to a fuller understanding of chronic disease processes and medications used to treat them.

The background of the RN will also help determine the types of services that he/she is qualified to provide (e.g., an RN with additional training or experience in mental health care may be qualified to coordinate mental health care services under the new Medicare benefits).

Hope that helps.
