our providers bill 88361 x4 on gastro samples; the antibodies are MUC, P53, AMAR and CD. We are getting differing opinions. Some say do not use 88361 for any of the antibodies, some say to only use 88361 for the P53 and others say to use 88361 for P53 and CD.

When it is appealed to Medicare with MR they sometimes pay all 4 units, sometimes deny all saying the antibodies do not qualify for the code and sometimes they will pay one unit.

Any assistance or advice is appreciated.
 
The actual concept for coding 88361 is they have to document cleary about stains performed by computer assistated or automated with scoring system.
