Hello All,
I am new coding general surgery and i came across this op report and i keep thinking we should code it as 29820 w/ +29826 ( we all agree with add on code) but i was told it was 29823 because the doctor said "extensive bursitis and a bursectomy was performed " . Also i have
a note in my cpt book that says 99822 includes :
1.-labral deb
2.-synovectomy ( only when soft tissue is removed )
3.-removal of
*humeral osteophylies
or
*glenoid oseophylies
4.-articular shaving and/or chondroplasty and diagnostic orthoscopy
another note in my cpt book that says 99823 includes:
1.-all in 99822
2.-biceps, tendon and rotator cuff deb
3.-abrasion ortho-plasty
. I hope someone can direct me !!
ps: the reason i picked 29820 was because a synovectomy is used when soft tissue is removed ( AAOS ) and a debridement should be used when articular cartilage is removed ...so based on this info i was leaning towards 29820
