Wiki 11102 vs 40490

Does anyone know if 40490 would still be used for a shave biopsy of the lip? Or would I use 11102 since shave technique is being used.

The new biopsy codes replace the previous biopsy code in the integumentary system. So if it qualified as a 40490 it continues to do so in 2019. I forget what the border is that makes it biopsy of lip vs biopsy of the skin.

For biopsies, only the vermilion is considered lip. (For other procedures, it includes the entire upper lip.)
