Reader Question:

C-arm Fluoroscopy

Question: Can we get more payment from C-arm fluoroscopy?

New Jersey Subscriber

Answer: Whether by C-arm or in the x-ray machine, fluoroscopy by any method (76000 or 76001) is not separately payable. Many payers consider this a separate procedure included in many operative codes. For example, if you are performing a retrograde (52005) and watching it on a fluoroscope, the fluoroscope is not separately payable. Physicians should continue to use these codes on a trial-and-error basis to see who will pay.
