Reader Question:

Cystourethroscopy and Urodynamics Testing

Question: If my physician performs a cystoureth-roscopy, and then does urodynamics testing during the same encounter, how can we bill for both?

Texas Subscriber

Answer: The services are not bundled; both are payable. Make sure you list the most complex procedure on the first line in this case, the cystourethroscopy (52000, cystourethroscopy [separate procedure]). Bill whichever urodynamics procedure (51725-51797) was performed, with modifier -51 (multiple procedures) appended. You will be paid 50 percent for the second procedure, so make sure you always put the highest-paying procedure on the first line when billing multiple procedures.
