Diagnosing Endometrial Stromal Sarcoma

Question: What is the correct diagnosis code for endometrial stromal sarcoma? Florida Subscriber Answer: You-ll want to report 182.0 (Malignant neoplasm of body of uterus; corpus uteri, except isthmus). Note that ICD-9 lists cornu, endometrium, fundus, and myometrium under the descriptor. Endometrial stromal sarcoma (ESS) is the least common type of uterine sarcoma, so you might not see this diagnosis very often. The tumors affect the supporting tissue of the uterine lining and typically occur in women between 42 and 59 years of age.
