The transition from regional home health intermediary to Home Health and Hospice Medicare Administration Contractor (HH MAC) is finally proceeding for home health agencies and hospices served by Palmetto GBA. And observers hope the change won't cause much trouble. That's because Palmetto is taking over as the HH MAC for Region C, the jurisdiction it already serves. Region C includes Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas, Palmetto says on its website. Palmetto also will become the A/B MAC for Jurisdiction 11, which covers four states. On Sept. 9, the Government Accountability Office denied a protest of Palmetto's new MAC contract that was lodged earlier this year (see Eli's HCW, Vol. XIX, No. 22, p. 176). Palmetto says it will partner with National Government Services on the contract. However, that won't be for the HH MAC business, reports the National Association for Home Care & Hospice. Protests over two of the three remaining HH MAC jurisdictions continue. Thus, there has been no transition from Cahaba GBA to Highmark Medicare Services nor from NGS to Noridian Administrative Services. National Heritage Insurance Corp. took over part of NGS's contract last year, but continues to subcontract with NGS for the work.
