A home health agency owner in Texas has pled guilty to stealing patient info from his hospital job to get his business off the ground.
Viju Mathew, a registration specialist at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, admitted to using his position to obtain confidential patient information, including patients’ names, telephone numbers, dates of birth, participation in the Medicare program, and government-issued health insurance claim numbers, the Department of Justice says in a release. Mathew intended to use the PHI to contact prospective patients for his home care business.
