Look at your claims closely to determine whether a newly reported claims glitch is costing you your rightful reimbursement. “Some home health claims are receiving incorrect partial period payment adjustments” when they shouldn’t, HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor Palmetto GBA says in its Claims Processing Issues Log. Reminder: Partial period payment adjustments should only occur when a patient has been discharged and readmitted to home care within the same 30-day period of care; when a patient transfers to another HHA during a 30-day period of care; or in cases where the patient elects Medicare Advantage (MA) coverage during an HH PPS period of care, Palmetto reminds agencies. “These situations are indicated on the claim by reporting a Patient Discharge Status code of 06. Based on the presence of this code, Pricer calculates a partial period payment adjustment to the claim,” Palmetto explains. For now, home health agencies must sit tight on the problem. “This issue has been reported and is being researched,” the MAC pledges. “Palmetto GBA will provide updates when available.”
