Home Health & Hospice Week

Industry Note:

Split Your Nursing G Codes By Date, MAC Says

HHAs must grapple with G0299 and G0300.

Since hospices bill monthly, they generally don’t have to worry about how to use the new Gcodes for nursing when claims span Jan. 1. But the same isn’t true for home health agencies, who are also required to use the new G-codes that were created due to hospice payment reform requirements.

Reminder: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued the new G-codes (G0299 and G0300) in Oct. 16 Change Request 9360 (see Eli’s HCW, Vol. XXIV, No. 38).

HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor “CGS has received questions from home health providers in regard to billing two new G-codes (G0299 and G0300) when a final claim spans 2015/2016 dates,” the MAC says. “CMS has provided clarification.” For episodes that span Jan. 1, report G0154 for 2015 visits. Report the new codes, G0299 or G0300, for visits made in 2016. “The G0154 code will no longer be allowed for visits made on or after January 1, 2016,” CGS points out.
