If you didn't increase your nursing salaries in 2011, you're out of step with the industry. The national average hourly pay rate for RNs increased 1.56 percent from 2010 to 2011, according to a survey by the Oakland, N.J.-based Hospital & Healthcare Compensation Service. That's slightly above the 2010 increase of 1.24 percent, according to the survey with more than 1,800 HHA and hospice participants. In the future: Survey respondents say they plan to increase nursing salaries 2.53 percent in 2012, HCS says. Nurses working for visiting nurse associations had the highest average hourly pay rate at $31.65, while those working for for-profits were lowest at $29.08, HCS says in a release. Hospital-based RNs averaged $30.41 per hour and not-for-profit nurses saw a $30.57 rate. The turnover rate for RNs continues to tick down. It was 19.06 percent in 2011, compared to 20.76 percent in 2010 and 21.32 percent in 2009, according to the survey.
