You may be hearing more about Local Coverage Decisions from your Medicare Administrative Contractor. As part of its Patients over Paperwork initiative, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has implemented a number of LCD process changes, CMS says on its PoP webpage. Among them is revising MAC instructions “to make sure they notify the public that LCD decisions have been published and give the web link to the final decision.” Other changes to the LCD process include revising MAC instructions to make sure MACs finalize or retire all proposed LCDs within a rolling year of the proposed LCD’s publication date; making Contractor Advisory Committee meetings open to the public; and revising MAC instructions to make the LCD process consistent across all regions. See more at www.cms.gov/Outreach-and-Education/Outreach/Partnerships/PatientsOverPaperwork.html. An example of a recently revised home health decision is the Home Health Speech Language Pathology (L34563) HHH LCD at www.cms.gov/medicare-coverage-database/details/lcd-details.aspx?LCDId=34563, effective April 4.
