Lighten Your F2F Load

Don’t worry about including face-to-face documentation when your MAC requests supporting records for a patient’s second or later episode.
That’s the message from HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor NHIC. "At this time documentation of the face-to-face encounter is only requested for the initial episode," NHIC says in a new question-and-answer document from its April 23 "virtual room session" on home health coverage.
Caveats: "Always read the ADR to determine which records are requested," NHIC cautions. "In the future CMS may require review of the face-to-face documentation even when the episode reviewed is not the initial episode."
