After reporting a $122 million loss in the last quarter of 2012, home care chain Amedisys Inc. is shedding some of its locations. The Baton Rouge, La.-based company has retained the services of The Braff Group to assist in the divestiture of about 35 care centers, it says in a release. "In addition to a possible sale of these locations, the Company will entertain contributing these care centers into joint ventures with hospitals, health systems, or other healthcare providers," it adds.
Amedisys plans to sell or consolidate about 50 locations in all, it says in the release.
For example: Upper Arkansas Home Health and Angel of Shavano Hospice in Salida, Co., have transferred Amedisys’ 50 percent partnership in the Heart of the Rockies joint venture to Frontier Home Health and Hospice, effective June 1, reports The Mountail Mail newspaper. As part of the transfer, Upper Arkansas Home Health and Angel of Shavano Hospice will become one care center doing business under the name Heart of the Rockies Home Health & Hospice, director Barbara Smith told the newspaper.
Amedisys posted a modest $2.1 million profit in the latest quarter.
