How much money do medical billers and coders make?

In our 2023 Medical Coding and Billing Salary Report, we surveyed around 20,000 medical records specialists — a term that encompasses medical coders, billers, auditors, practice managers, and compliance officers.

The results show that on average, noncertified medical record specialists make $46,321 per year. In contrast, certified medical record specialists earn an average of $56,290 annually — 17.7 percent more than their noncertified colleagues.
