E/M Changes in 2023: How to Prepare
The anticipated 2023 EM guideline changes for other E&M visits are finally here! In a few months we will no longer need to use three different sets (2021, 1995 or 1997) of documentation rules; but we can’t relax quite yet. AMA took a similar approach to the 2021 Outpatient E&M services with changes to hospital inpatient, hospital observation, emergency department, nursing facility, home & residence services, and cognitive impairment assessment.
Additionally, AMA made further revisions to the 2021 Outpatient guidelines. With this major overhaul, we need to make sure our coders, auditors, and providers have a firm foundation of the documentation and coding requirements. The 2023 guidelines include:
New Descriptors for Time
New and Revised Definitions
Changes To Levels of Medical Decision Making
Changes to Prolonged Time
41 Revised Codes
26 Deleted Codes
2 New Codes
In this presentation, Lori Cox and Stephani Scott will share how to build a firm foundation with the 2023 E/M guideline changes to ensure success for your organization. From coders to billing managers and revenue cycle specialists, everyone at your organization will find benefit in this on-demand webinar.
