With ICD-10 CM just around the corner let me make a suggestion:
with ICD-9 CM we tend to hear things like, Hypertension is 4(OH)1.9 when it is really 4(zero)1.9; diabetes is not 25(OH) it is 25(zero). Also we should not be referring to external codes as E codes, because E codes in ICD-10 CM are endocrine codes, and external cause are V, W, X, Y. Factors that influence health status are V in ICD-9 CM but V codes in ICD-10 CM are external cause codes.
Start the transition now by mentally recognizing O as an O and a 0 as a 0. also start calling the E codes external cause and the V codes factors that influence health.
This will really help you more than you realize.
