Would you use the XP modifier for an EGD with PEG placement when two separate physicians are performing? One is doing the endoscopy portion while the other physician is placing the peg. We have been using the 62 modifier, but after reading the definition of the XP this would seem more fitting. Any thoughts???

The 62 is the appropriate modifier for this situation - it's a single procedure but performed by two providers of different specialties. Billing the procedure twice with an XP modifier would essentially be coding that each provider performed the entire procedure, i.e. that the patient underwent that procedure twice on that day. XP modifier is mainly intended for use to replace modifier 59 to bypass bundling edits by indicating that a procedure that would normally being inclusive to another procedure should be paid separately because the first procedure was done during an encounter with one provider while the second was done with another. It's not for use when two providers share the responsibility for a single procedure.
