I have a patient who had a partial cystectomy. The patient was discharged from the hospital and two days later his catheter was clogged with clots. He came into the office and they irrigated out his catheter with a large amount of clots that returned. Would this be included in the post op visit or would this be billed 51700?

This would be included in the post op care. A good definition of what is included in post op care is...

  • All standard postoperative care of the patient including but not limited to removal of sutures, staples, casts, drains, tubes, packs, etc. Any wound care or dressing changes. Any care required of the surgeon due to postoperative complications or problems that do not require the patient to be taken back to the operating room for further procedures.
