Wiki when can we code flu vs just signs and symptoms

When a pt comes in with flu symptoms, however their flu screen comes back negative, but the doc still thinks its flu regardless and is going to treat like the flu can we code 487 series or do we have to have positive screen? In this case would we just code signs and symptoms?

if the provider documents flu then we code flu if it is not documented then code the symptoms.
