What is the appropriate use of F32.A?

Is there a clinical difference between F32.A and F32.9, or is it just to be used when the provider does not document "major depressive disorder"? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Alvesey:D
I have been told if it is Chronic Depression use dx F32A. It is not major problem for the patient but just kinda in a blue funky way. Whereas if it is recurrent depression use dx F33 and if unspecified depression dx F32.9. It seems F32.9 NOS Unspecified depression is no real reason but patient depressed. Also must have depression for at least 2 weeks considered chronic plus provider s documentation and noted signs & symptoms. See dx R45-R46 list types of symptoms. We find patients have depression with ongoing issues such as G47 or Chronic Pain G89 or Cancer of some type or just ongoing suffering of some type. Add those Z codes on the end of the claim if it fits the documentation such as dx blocks of Z73, Z63, Z60,Z86.5 and Z59.
I hope I have helped you. Have a good day!
