If the patient is still in post op and the "pin or screw" needs to come out, what DX would you use. Also, what modifier would you use, if planned or not?
If the patient is out of post op and the "pin or screw" is backing out, and the doc takes him to surgery to remove it, what DX would you use?

In global (non-Medicare for an office procedure) - 58 + laterality if applicable
Out of global - laterality if applicable

Dx:
Painful hardware - 998.76
Hardware:
V54.01 pin
V54.89 external
V54.01 internal

If retained use V54.01.
If mechanical complication use 996.49.
