Can you bill wellness exam and DOT physical in same episode or do you need to bill in separate? Patient is seen in one visit, 2 separate documents for these exams. Need to understand how do you bill? Can they be billed together or do they need billed separately?

Hi - It depends on how they are documented. Is this a Medicare Wellness and DOT? or Preventative and DOT? What CPT codes are you using for your DOT? Our DOT physicals only are typically (not always) self-pay and the provider fills out paperwork we do not submit to insurance. If the patient comes in for their preventative and DOT at the same time we are only billing a preventative as it would kind of seem like we are "double dipping" because they are typically covering the same topics and well being of the patient. Even though they are separate documents that doesn't always constitute a separate charge.

If the patient has not had their wellness exam then we will do the DOT physical as a part of their wellness exam and not charge separately for the DOT physical.
