Good afternoon, We are an ophthalmology group which has been covering a single physician practice on a locum tenens arrangement. We are now going to take over that location.While the charts for the physician are on site, we are technically not buying the charts, only the physical location and equipment. One of my Drs. wants to bill existing patients of the former Dr's practice as new patients if she has not seen them before. My feeling is whether they have been seen by our Doctors or not, the charts remain at the location and it seems they would be considered established patients.....does anyone have experience/thoughts on this sticky situation? Any articles I could show to my Drs. would be appreciated!
