Patient comes in and we bill 36471 RT. Patient comes back to office within the 10 day global period and we bill 36471 79 LT and 10160 LT. What global modifiers would be appended to the 10160?

Hi ,

Good Morning,

Please Append modifier 78 to CPT 10160-LT. Becuase CPT 36471 is (multiple veins, same leg) But CPT 10160 ( Puncture aspiration of abscess, hematoma, Bulla, or cyst.) Hence the procdure is diffent. Hence we need to append Modifier 78 to CPT 10160.

You cannot add -78 to the 10160. It's on a different leg. Unless the MD connects the two problems, you would have to use -79. However, check and see if the modifier is allowed with 10160.

Hi Cyndi,

First we need to check with Medical records, why because is the CPT10160( Puncture aspiration of abscess, hematoma, Bulla, or cyst) done in same leg we need to append modifier 78. if CPT 10160 is done different leg then need to append modifier 79.

Modifier 79 is allowable to CPT 10160.
