Hello,

Can anyone expain this code for me:

V58.78 - Aftercare following surgery of the musculskeletal system NEC

Underneath this code it states: Conditionsclassifiable to 710-739

Does this mean I can only use this code if the original diagnosis code is in this range (710-739)

Sugery is out of the global period.

or would I use V54.89?

Hello, that is exactly what that means. Is the patient's visit connected with the surgery? If so, then I would use that code. If there are complications, I would code the symptoms first. I would not use V54.89 unless the surgery was due to a fracture. If it was, then there are more specific codes that you can use. Hope this helps!
