Looking for some opinions on this:

A patient is 50 years old, and has a family history of colon cancer. He is referred to our office for a colonoscopy.

If performing a colonoscopy for a family history of colon cancer, would it be appropriate to add the screening dx code, as the patient has no GI symptoms?

And yes, I know this is a topic that has been covered numerous times in the past. They are looking for current opinions on this issue.

thanks

Yes it would be appropriate to use V76.51 primary and V16.0 as secondary for commercial insurance. I would use V16.0 primary for Medicare and use with G0105. (I am in Ohio)
