Hi Everyone,
If Urgent Care sends a patient to the ED, can the Urgent Care charge for the services they provide?

Some Urgent Care providers believe that if a patient is sent to the ED from the Urgent Care, than the Urgent Care should not charge. Are there any guidelines surrounding this?

Is it scenario based? If there is enough documentation to justify an E&M, charge for the E&M plus any procedures, labs, EKG, etc. If the Urgent Care provider calls an ambulance and only sustains the patient until they are transported, there may not be enough documentation to support an E&M.

Any guideline references, accreditation body sources, opinions or experience on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Jenifer
