Wiki Urgent care billing

Our hospital is establishing an Urgent Care Clinic within the Emergency Department. For non-emergent treatment thus preventing the higher emergency room visit charges for those non-emergent visits.

I'm looking for someone who works in this type of environment, whom I can contact regarding the billing/coding of these visits. I know we would bill an E/M code for the professional component with Place of Service 20, but our CFO is stating there should be a facility code or technical component that can be billed in addition.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Urgent Care Billing

Hi there,

Were you able to find out any additional info. on urgent care billing? My understanding is that it is exactly the same as regular physician billing with POS 20?

We used a 451 rev code in our facility for the non emergency side of the ED

Did you see that there's an upcoming AAPC webinar on Urgent Care billing? I'm looking forward to it because I have a couple scenarios I'm unsure about myself.

Just remember that an urgent care clinic is different that an urgent care department in the facilities.
