Hello!
The patient's G-tube was pulled out and not able to be reinserted after attempts by ER staff. After 3 attempts a temporary 16 French foley catheter was place in the G-tube area in satisfactory position.
I am not sure if I need to focus on the G-tube being replaced and that the Foley catheter is serving the same purpose (more limited) for the time being. Would you use 43762 since it's not a gastrostomy tube per se?
Thanks!

A colleague sent an inquiry to AHIMA Code-Check Response Team (FYI, there is a fee for this service).
This is the response she received:
"Based on the information received, it is not appropriate to report CPT code 43762 for this scenario. A Foley catheter placement is a temporary insertion to allow the patient follow up care with a specialist. While the intent is to replace the PEG tub, current CPT code selection does not support assignment of CPT code 43762 for Foley catheter. The time and effort for insertion of Foley catheter is not the same as a PEG tube placed typically in an endoscopy suite. The healthcare facility may report an unlisted code 49999."
