We have a patient with United Healthcare Medicare who had weekly bilateral UNNA boot applications for a while. Billed as right and left with RT and LT modifiers, it was denied. Billed as bilateral with modifier 50, denied. Reason given was NCCI edits. Chapter 1, Section 5. This is a little confusing to me but the patient has erythema, weeping and shooting pains as well as venous stasis ulcers. The wounds are responding to the Unna boots. Does anyone have any advice for me????? Also billed office visit 99214.
