Dr. did an open umbilical hernia repair and a LT inguinal hernia repair with mesh: I coded it as such: patient was over 5 yrs. of age. 49505 LT 49587 51 Am I correct in adding the 51 modifier to the second procedure code?

Yes, it would be correct to append the 51 modifier to second procedure code. You did not mention if the umbilical hernia was incarerated, if it was then the 49587 would be correct.
