Wiki Ultrasound for Incomplete SAB

Hello,

I am looking for some help. What is the appropriate ultrasound code to use when a patient has a positive urine B-hCG yet the U/S shows no IUP. Would you code with 76830 and 634.91 or 76817 and 634.91, V72.42.

Any help is much appreciated.

For this situation we have always gone with the 76817. Our reasoning has been that the patient is pregnant (it is just non-viable) so it is still an obstetrical ultrasound.
