I have read some articles saying the same physician cannot bill for ear tube removal and some things I've read say the same physician can bill for the removal but all of my research is old articles. The doctor put tympanostomy tubes in back in February of this year and the same doctor removed the tubes under anesthesia in July. Can I bill for the tube removal with 69424 or am I not allowed to bill it since the same physician put them in?

As long as general anesthesia was used, then you can and should code 69424. If it was done in the office then it will be included in the e/m or 92504 if used a binocular microscopy.

The limitation that the surgeon that put them in cannot remove them no longer exists in the code descriptions. That was removed in the mid 2000s. Crobinson1988 is correct about the removal, whether under general anesthesia or if performed in the office.
